It was founded by the late Bobby Wiggins. About the Shreveport Regional Arts Council:The Shreveport Regional Arts Council fosters, supports, and promotes the arts in the region, providing grants and resources to local artists and organizations to enrich the cultural landscape of Shreveport. The New Dimensions Choral Society will create a new program in two acts to educate the general public about the rich history of African American music. Composed of professional musicians and singers, the Society will present solos and choral works from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Then they’ll sing Negro Spirituals indicative of the songs that were sung by African Americans during enslavement, Reconstruction, and Jim Crow eras. There’ll be narration and explanation of the songs and their significance, as well as the imagery evoked by the words and cadence. Caddo Common Park |
