Bio of Sam Albert Gilliam 

Sam Albert Gilliam most recently served as the Interim Chancellor at Southern University in Shreveport (appointed July 1, 2015). He is also, a former member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors (2000 thru 2006) where he served as Chairman of the Board from 2004 thru 2006. He was reappointed to the Southern University Board on January 1, 2019. He also, served as Interim Chancellor (1998–99) and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs (1990–98 & 1982–88) at Southern University at Shreveport. Additionally, he served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (1988–90), Director of Student Affairs (1980–82), Director of Financial Aid (1979–80), Director of Recruitment and High School Relations (197479), Director of Public Relations (1972–74), and Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Southern University at Shreveport (1970–72). After 32 years of service at Southern University, he accepted an appointment at Wiley College as Director of Student Affairs for a short period of time before taking an appointment with the City of Shreveport in August of 1999 as Assistant Chief Administrative Officer. While with the City of Shreveport he designed and implemented the City’s Fair Share Program.

After completing his most recent appointment at Southern University, he returned to his Real Estate Career specializing in sales, management and investment of residential and commercial properties. His area of specialty further extends to Rural Development Initiatives where he focuses on enhancing the quality of rural life and economic development for clients to make them self-sufficient. Gilliam holds a Graduate Degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA; and, his Undergraduate Degree is from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA. 1966. He is a graduate of the Harvard University Institute of Educational Management. Additionally, he has studied at Northwestern State University; Los Angeles City College (Los, Angles, California); and Pine Manor College (Brookline, Massachusetts). Gilliam is a native of (South) Mansfield, Louisiana and was educated in the Public-School System of DeSoto Parish.
